Busy week

A busy couple of weeks just gone by with major developments at the main website taking up a lot of time again, so adding pages to the glossary has slipped down the list a little further. Having said that, since adding B, A, E, F, G and H I’ve managed to crawl through a few more, helped this week by feeling a little more lively thanks to the clocks being put back and having at least some daylight as I type! The latest additions are for J, K, L, N, O, Q and U.

Having completed the first entries in our computer glossary for letters C, D, I, M, P, R, S and T in a matter of a few days, the next few additions have taken somewhat longer to add. This is partly due to the diversion of a major development project on the main website (which we anticipate being complete some time in the next 4 weeks or so). Nevertheless, early mornings have seen me tapping away on B, A, E, F, G and H.

Oh dear - the early morning starts have slipped a little this week and it’s difficult even to fit a few extra paragraphs into the day. First entries are now written for C, D, I, M, P, R, S and T though and I’m trying to keep up the average of writing one page per day. We shall see.

My Definition

In the cause of adding value to our website and in the never ending search for good content, I have been charged with the task of compiling a glossary of IT and tech-related terms. Not overnight, as this will be an ongoing project for the forseeable (indefinite) future.

The process has been started and I have learned very quickly that it is not going to be easy, with creative amalgamation of information from a wide range of sources being a very hard way to wake yourself up - I have decided that the only way to fit this into the day is going to be to do it first thing before anything else takes over.

The aim is to complete one definition per day on average every, day. Allowing for several to be done over the weekend, that should make for close on 500 entries per year. Shorter definitions could mean they could be added more quickly but we have plumped for 250 to 300 words on average per term as a happy medium.

Website Enhancements

We have a major upgrade to the main website underway at the moment, with completion due some time within the next 3-4 weeks. The changes will allow for greater product detail in our store listings including full descriptions and tech specs and in many cases, pictures of the item in question.

At the same time we are greatly increasing our product catalogue and adding Google Checkout, all of which we hope will make for an even better shopping experience.
