Screen Screams II July 26, 2006
The replacement monitor arrived today (three working days rather than the one promised in the warranty). On unpacking it, once again I noticed that it was not a brand new unit, or at least had been “repaired” and should have been issued as a B grade item.
The bezel is ill-fitting around the lower front edge, there are scuff marks to the upper rear of the casing and there is a bright green dead pixel laughing at me from the upper LH corner as I write this.
I stand to be corrected, but my suspicion is that these less than perfect re-works are farmed out from time to time to see if the claimant complains on receiving a less than perfect replacement - if not, they have saved the cost of following the terms of the warranty to the letter. If a new replacement is not available then an upgrade to the newer equivalent model should be sent.
I’m too weary of the whole process with the manufacturer in question to argue about it again just now (that may be one for a rainy day) but it leaves a bad taste when onsite warranties can run into the £100’s. This is a £1000+ TFT and wriggling out of issuing a full and proper warranty replacement feels somehow cheap.
On a brighter note, we’ve uploaded a few dozen new items to the main website. They are currently showing in the main page of the store.
