Screen Screams II July 26, 2006

The replacement monitor arrived today (three working days rather than the one promised in the warranty). On unpacking it, once again I noticed that it was not a brand new unit, or at least had been “repaired” and should have been issued as a B grade item.

The bezel is ill-fitting around the lower front edge, there are scuff marks to the upper rear of the casing and there is a bright green dead pixel laughing at me from the upper LH corner as I write this.

We had to make a warranty claim on one of our 20″ TFT monitors on Friday - not too unusual except that this is the second time we’ve claimed on this same model and the third in total within a year. It’s not a generic, unbranded one either, but from one of the biggest names.

Anyone else had a high failure rate with TFTs, I’d be interested to hear. Ventilation has always been fine, power supply is protected etc, so it’s a bit of a mystery.

I even suspected at one stage that the last warranty replacement unit was actually refurbished rather …

New Bits & Pieces July 17, 2006

We’ve been busy with SEO and directory submissions these last few weeks – an ongoing but time-consuming task that never seems to be fitted into the schedule allocated to it unfortunately and tends to eat into the weekends (and blogging time)!
